Many individuals are interested in upgrading their homes through remodeling, renovations, or smaller projects. However, the cost is often a barrier, with the average renovation cost for a house exceeding $50,000. These expenses lead many people to watch numerous home improvement shows and attempt DIY transformations. However, DIY projects also require money and basic skills, not to mention the need for tools.

If you’re not comfortable with tools or don’t own any, upgrading your house may seem impossible without a spare $50,000. Fortunately, there are several ways to upgrade your house without the need for tools.

    Towel racks

If you need a place to hang towels in your bathroom or kitchen but don’t want to drill holes or use tools, Command towel racks are a great solution. These towel racks can be easily attached to your walls using Command strips, which are water-resistant. You can watch a video demonstrating the installation process here. Additionally, you can download a bubble level app for your phone to ensure proper installation.

    Lighting

Upgrading the lighting in your house doesn’t have to involve wiring, cutting, or opening walls. Rechargeable LED lights with built-in magnets can be easily attached to metal surfaces or affixed under cabinets and onto walls using adhesive backing. These lights are motion-activated and can serve as nightlights, closet lights, or kitchen work lights. Stick-on lights are another option that can be programmed and controlled with a remote, giving your kitchen a futuristic feel. Ceiling lights that adhere to the ceiling without tools are also available, allowing you to add overhead lighting to any room without the need for an electrician or drilling.

    Floating shelves

If you need lightweight storage shelves, the High & Mighty shelf is a great option. These shelves require no tools for installation and can hold up to 20 pounds of items. The package even includes a level for easy installation. Simply stick the guide to the wall, push in the brackets, and hang the shelf. This is a simple way to add attractive storage to your walls without drilling multiple holes.

    Grout pens

If the grout in your shower or kitchen backsplash is looking dirty, you can easily clean it up or give it a fresh look with a grout pen. These pens come in a variety of colors and can be used on existing grout lines without the need for tools. However, make sure to check the directions before purchasing as some grout markers only work on unsealed grout.

    Peel-and-stick everything

Peel-and-stick materials are a convenient way to upgrade any space without tools or extensive renovations. Wallpaper is an easy way to cover up unattractive walls or change their appearance. There are also floor stickers and tiles that can be installed on top of existing flooring, including tile. These tiles come in various styles, such as faux wood, porcelain, and natural stone. Additionally, tile stickers/decals can be pasted over existing tile to give it a fresh new look. Window treatments like roller shades, Roman shades, and heavy curtains can be easily installed using tension systems without the need for drilling or screwing.

    Faux headboard

If you want to add a touch of elegance to your bedroom, you can create a faux headboard on the wall behind your bed. This can be done by sticking spare wood paneling, vinyl peel-and-stick tiles, or any other decorative material to the wall. Command strips can be used to hang the wood paneling, making it easy to create the illusion of a headboard without any woodworking or wall attachment.
