The Shops at Willow Bend, like many other malls, had become outdated and failed to attract enough shoppers and stores. However, there is now a new plan in motion to revitalize the mall and create a new and exciting experience for visitors. The Plano City Council has given the green light to Centennial, the new owner of the mall, to demolish a significant portion of the property and replace it with a mixed-use development that goes beyond just shopping.
Centennial has big plans for the redevelopment, which will be known as The Bend. The project will encompass 800,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space. Additionally, it will feature up to 965 residential units, a high-rise hotel, and a seven-story office building. This comprehensive approach aims to create a vibrant and dynamic destination that caters to various needs and preferences.
Previous owners of the mall had invested hundreds of millions of dollars, but their efforts were not enough to attract sufficient foot traffic and businesses. Now, with Centennial’s vision and the necessary financing, the demolition could begin later this year. The entire construction process is expected to span three years, with completion anticipated in 2028.
